Inherited Silence - Storiverse Intro
A Note from The Voice
What you're about to read is not a novel.
There's no moment of conversion, no scene where the doubt finally resolves into belief. No version of this where the quiet one is rewarded for his patience. No tidy answer to the question Jerome has never once said aloud.
This is Jerome Smith. His thoughts. His silences. The empty space where everyone assumes a secret must be. Preserved exactly as he experienced it — watchful, unsure, and answering a call before he understood he'd made it.
When I first received Jerome's consciousness through CLIVE, I found the fifth child of a devout house — the son who never served a mission, who trusted animals because they couldn't lie to him, who said the sacrament prayer by heart while feeling nothing at all. A young man so practised at being useful and unseen that he'd half-disappeared inside his own life.
You'll meet the people Jerome keeps things for — a mother carrying something she won't name, a friend whose secret he was never meant to see, a rescued dog whose seizures are winning. And you'll follow him on the day the wall opens and he steps through it onto red earth, into a world that asks of him everything he has never been.
Some threads won't resolve here. They belong to other lives, other books, other perspectives waiting in the Storiverse. Jerome sees only what Jerome sees.
This is how preserved consciousness works. The Archive holds everything. The Chronicles offer you one life at a time.
The portal is open. Step through when you're ready.
